Liverpool are interested in 18-year-old Genk goalkeeper Luk Bruggeman, with talks over a possible move reportedly already under way. Bayern Munich are also monitoring the highly rated Belgium youth international, according to Goal.com, which cited journalist Sasha Tavolieri.
Liverpool are said to be impressed by Bruggeman’s potential and are considering him as a possible replacement for Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Reds are not the only major European club to have identified the teenager as a player of interest, with Bayern Munich also understood to be following his progress.
There has been no indication that a transfer has been agreed, but the reported discussions suggest Bruggeman is attracting attention at an early stage of his senior career. He currently plays for Genk, where he has made 15 appearances for the first team.
Standing two metres tall, Bruggeman is regarded as one of Belgium’s most promising young goalkeepers. He has represented his country at every youth level and has also spent time with Antwerp and PSV during his development.
Bruggeman joined Genk as a free agent in 2022. His route into the first team has continued to develop since then, although the opening weeks of the current campaign have proved difficult for both the goalkeeper and his club.
He has conceded eight goals in four Belgian league appearances this season, while Genk currently sit seventh in the table. Those results have come during a challenging start to the campaign, despite the wider interest in Bruggeman from clubs in England and Germany.
Liverpool’s reported interest is linked to the possibility of Mamardashvili eventually moving on, with Bruggeman viewed as a potential long-term option. Bayern Munich’s involvement would give the Belgian a choice between two of Europe’s most prominent clubs if their interest develops into formal offers.
For now, Bruggeman remains a Genk player and has 15 senior appearances to his name. His record of progressing through Belgium’s youth teams, combined with his height and early first-team experience, has helped establish him as one of the country’s leading young goalkeeping prospects.
