RB Leipzig have denied reports that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid over the transfer of Ivorian international Yan Diomandé.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director Marcel Schäfer said negotiations have not reached the stage where a deal can be considered complete, contradicting recent reports that the Spanish club had secured an agreement for the highly regarded Ivorian.
Several media outlets had claimed in recent days that Leipzig and Real Madrid had reached an agreement for Diomandé, with some reports suggesting the transfer was effectively done.
Schäfer has now rejected those claims and made clear that the situation remains unresolved.
“It’s clear that some so-called transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done or gave it the ‘here we go.’ That’s simply not the case. We’re not at that stage yet,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
The comments represent the clearest indication from Leipzig that the proposed move to Real Madrid has not yet been finalised.
Schäfer also indicated that there is unlikely to be a major development in the immediate future, meaning Diomandé’s situation remains open as the summer transfer window continues.
The Ivorian has therefore become the subject of renewed transfer speculation, with reports linking him with a move to the Spanish giants but Leipzig insisting that an agreement has not been reached.
