Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has admitted that fame has made ordinary life difficult, saying he misses being able to walk through Barcelona, eat in public and shop without attracting attention.
Yamal, who became a household name after breaking into Barcelona’s first team at 16, said the reality of celebrity life is very different from how it appears to people watching from the outside.
The Spain international discussed the impact of his growing profile during an interview with Jorge Valdano on the Universo Valdano programme, published by Catalan newspaper Sport.
Yamal explained that people often see his lifestyle as something desirable because his success gives him the ability to buy what he wants. But the Barcelona player said his experience of fame has brought significant restrictions to his everyday life.
“It always happens to me when I am on tour in Barcelona. I might go to buy clothes, and people say: I wish I were a liar and could buy whatever I want.”
The teenager said such comments fail to reflect what his life is actually like.

Yamal’s rise has been remarkably rapid. He first made his breakthrough with Barcelona in April 2023 at the age of 16 and quickly became one of the club’s most prominent players.
His profile grew further through his international career, with the forward playing an important role as Spain won Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup.
But while his achievements have brought worldwide recognition, Yamal said the attention has also taken away some of the simple experiences that were once part of everyday life.
The Barcelona star said he would like to be able to spend time in public without constantly being recognised or approached by people.
“I wish I could be like you and be able to eat something in this street in peace, or live among the people without attracting too much attention.”
His comments offer an insight into the less visible side of his rapid rise. The fame surrounding Yamal has brought opportunities and recognition, but he says it has also affected his privacy and freedom to move around Barcelona as an ordinary young person.
For the Barcelona forward, the difficulty is not having access to the things that fame can provide, but being unable to enjoy some of the everyday experiences that others can take for granted.
