Kaizer Chiefs are close to completing a major domestic transfer after agreeing a deal with Stellenbosch FC for highly-rated winger Langelihle Phili.
The 21-year-old has arrived in Johannesburg and is expected to undergo a medical before completing a long-term move to Naturena. Subject to the final paperwork and any late complications, the transfer is expected to be confirmed before the window closes.
Phili’s arrival would be another significant step in Kaizer Chiefs’ efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Betway Premiership season. The club have monitored the winger for more than a year and see him as one of the leading young attacking talents in the division.
The move would also deepen the increasingly close transfer relationship between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC. Phili is set to become the sixth player to move directly from the Cape club to Amakhosi.
Phathutshedzo Nange was the first of the group, joining Kaizer Chiefs in 2021. Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika followed in 2022, before midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa made the same move in 2023. Defender Thabo Moloisane became the most recent player to switch clubs in 2026.
Reports indicate that the agreement for Phili is worth several million rand. The package is understood to include a cash payment, as well as two experienced players moving in the opposite direction.
Ashley Du Preez, a former Stellenbosch FC player, is expected to return to the club on a permanent basis. Central defender Given Msimango is also set to move to the Cape as part of the proposed arrangement.
The inclusion of two players, alongside the financial element of the deal, reflects the value Kaizer Chiefs place on Phili and his potential. His departure from Stellenbosch FC had appeared increasingly likely after head coach Gavin Hunt left the winger out of the club’s most recent matchday squad, with negotiations nearing completion.
Phili established himself as one of the most promising players in the Betway Premiership during a breakthrough campaign last season. He finished as Stellenbosch FC’s leading scorer and received four individual awards from the club.
His pace, direct approach and ability to threaten goal helped him attract attention from Kaizer Chiefs. The club now expect to complete the formalities and officially unveil him in the coming hours, provided the remaining documentation is processed without delay.
His signing would give manager Fernando da Cruz another attacking option as Kaizer Chiefs continue to reshape their squad. Amakhosi are aiming to challenge for silverware this season, and Phili’s arrival is viewed as a statement of intent in that pursuit.
