Juventus are in talks with Newcastle United over a potential loan move for Germany forward Nick Woltemade, who became the Premier League club’s record signing last summer.
Newcastle United paid a reported club-record fee of £69m to beat Bayern Munich to the 24-year-old’s signature. However, after an encouraging beginning at St James’ Park, Woltemade’s influence declined as the season progressed.
He finished the 2025-26 campaign with 11 goals and four assists in 51 appearances for Newcastle United.
The forward’s position in the squad has now come under further pressure following Eddie Howe’s surprise resignation and the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as Newcastle’s manager. Woltemade is understood to have slipped down the pecking order under the new head coach.
According to The Athletic, Juventus are hoping to persuade Newcastle United to allow Woltemade to move to Serie A on a temporary basis. The Italian club are exploring a loan agreement rather than a permanent transfer for the player, who only joined Newcastle United last summer.
Newcastle United had previously been understood to be unwilling to let Woltemade leave during the current summer transfer window. That stance has since changed, opening the possibility of a move to Juventus.
Juventus’ interest comes as Canadian striker Jonathan David appears set to depart the club on loan for Atletico de Madrid. The potential exit has prompted the Italian side to consider its attacking options and has contributed to their approach for Woltemade.
The proposed move would give Juventus the opportunity to bring in the 24-year-old after his first season in English football, while Newcastle United would have to decide whether a temporary departure represents the best option for a player signed for a club-record amount.
Woltemade began his Newcastle United career strongly after arriving from Bayern Munich’s pursuit, but his form later dropped off during a demanding campaign. Despite registering 15 goal contributions across his 51 matches, he has not remained first choice following the change in management.
Any agreement will depend on Newcastle United’s willingness to sanction the loan and Juventus’ ability to complete the deal after David’s expected move to Atletico de Madrid. For now, discussions between the clubs are continuing over Woltemade’s possible switch to Serie A.
