Juventus have agreed to send Jonathan David to Atletico Madrid on loan with an option to buy for €25m, while simultaneously arranging a €5m loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade.
Sky Sport Italia reports that all parties have reached an agreement over David’s move, with the necessary documentation exchanged.
Juventus will continue to pay about 50% of the Canada international’s wages during his time in Madrid. The Italian club are nevertheless hopeful David can perform strongly enough at Atletico Madrid to convince them to make the transfer permanent.
The deal represents the second consecutive season in which Juventus and Atletico Madrid have conducted a similar arrangement. Nico Gonzalez spent last season at the Madrid club.
Juventus have moved quickly to secure a replacement for David, agreeing to pay Newcastle United €5m to take Woltemade on loan for the season.
However, the proposed move for the Germany international is a dry loan, meaning Juventus will not have an option to buy him when the campaign ends.
The deal is not yet fully complete because Juventus are still working to agree personal terms with Woltemade. Reports from Sky Sport Italia and Sky Sports Deutschland indicate that negotiations are proving difficult, with the player understood not to be enthusiastic about the move.
David’s departure would therefore make room for Woltemade in Juventus’ attacking plans, although the German forward’s personal decision remains a key issue before the transfer can receive final approval.
