Juventus have agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Senegal midfielder Pape Matar Sarr on loan, with the move potentially becoming permanent for a total cost of €30m.
Tottenham have given Sarr permission to travel to Italy to complete the transfer, according to the latest reports from Sky Sport Italia. The agreement includes a loan fee and a conditional obligation for Juventus to buy the 23-year-old at the end of the arrangement.
The obligation to make the move permanent will be activated if Juventus qualify for the Europa League and Sarr plays in at least 50% of the club’s matches during the 2026-27 season.
The deal represents a swift response from Juventus after the club learned that Franck Kessie had chosen to return to Atalanta rather than join Luciano Spalletti’s side in Turin. Juventus subsequently moved to secure Sarr, who is expected to add depth and physical presence to their midfield.
Sky Sport Italia reports that the overall value of the transfer will reach €30m if the conditions for the permanent move are met. The initial loan agreement therefore gives Juventus the opportunity to assess Sarr before the obligation to buy is triggered by the agreed sporting criteria.
Sarr joined Tottenham’s senior squad after establishing himself as an important player for Senegal. His proposed move to Juventus would take him from the Premier League to Serie A and make him part of a major summer rebuilding programme in Turin.
If completed, Sarr would become Juventus’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window. The club have already brought in Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, as well as Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Jeff Ekhator, Jhon Lucumi, Zeki Zelik and Kamil Grabara.
Vicario’s arrival means Juventus have already conducted business with Tottenham during the same transfer window, before reaching their agreement for Sarr. The midfielder’s move is now expected to progress once he completes the necessary steps in Italy.
Juventus are understood to have acted quickly because of the change in Kessie’s plans. Rather than moving to Turin to work with Spalletti, Kessie opted to return to Atalanta, prompting Juventus to pursue an alternative midfield option.
The final transfer will depend on the two conditions included in the agreement: Juventus qualifying for the Europa League and Sarr featuring in at least half of the team’s matches in 2026-27. Should both requirements be fulfilled, the Italian club will be required to complete the purchase, taking the total value of the deal to €30m.
