Julian Alvarez to meet Diego Simeone as Atletico weigh next steps

Julian Alvarez will return to Atletico de Madrid on Monday for an important meeting with head coach Diego Simeone about his future at the club.

According to ESPN Argentina, the discussion will focus on how the player and manager view their continued relationship and the possibility of working together in the future. The meeting is expected to clarify the position of both sides before the matter is presented to Atletico de Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.

Cerezo will take part in the decision over the Argentina forward’s future after being informed of the outcome of the conversation between Alvarez and Simeone.

Despite the talks, Atletico de Madrid’s position remains unchanged: the club do not intend to part company with Alvarez. The Madrid side are prepared to listen to interest in the forward, but would only agree to a transfer if they received a very substantial offer.

The meeting therefore represents an important step in discussions over Alvarez’s situation, although it does not mean Atletico de Madrid have decided to sell him. The club’s current stance is that the forward remains part of their plans, with any possible departure dependent on the scale of an offer made for him.

Alvarez will first speak directly with Simeone when he returns to the club on Monday. Their conversation will centre on their shared view of how their professional relationship should continue. Once that meeting has taken place, its conclusions will be passed on to the club president, who will be involved in determining the next course of action.

The forward’s future will consequently be considered by Alvarez, Simeone and the Atletico de Madrid hierarchy. While the meeting is described as important, the club have not changed their policy regarding the player and are not actively looking to find a buyer.

Any interested club would therefore need to make an offer substantial enough to alter Atletico de Madrid’s position. Unless that happens, the Madrid club are expected to retain Alvarez rather than sanction his sale.

For now, the immediate development is Alvarez’s return to Atletico de Madrid and his scheduled conversation with Simeone. The discussion will establish how the two view their continued cooperation, while the final decision on the forward’s future will involve the president.
