Portugal midfielder Florentino has joined Ipswich from Burnley for €18.7m, completing a move that brings the 26-year-old defensive midfielder to the Premier League club.
Florentino arrives at Ipswich after making 31 Premier League appearances and providing two assists during the 2025-26 season. His move follows a brief spell at Burnley, who had signed him from Benfica after an earlier loan period at the club.
The midfielder had initially moved to Burnley on loan from Benfica in September 2025, with a loan fee of €2m. That arrangement ended in June 2026 before Burnley completed a permanent €24m deal for him on 1 July. Just over a month later, he switched to Ipswich in another permanent transfer.
Born in Lobito, Angola, Florentino represents Portugal and has also featured for the country’s youth sides. He was part of the Portugal Under-19 team that won the European Under-19 Championship in 2018 and the Under-17 side that claimed the European Under-17 title in 2016. He also helped Portugal Under-21 finish as runners-up at the 2021 European Under-21 Championship.
Florentino developed through Benfica’s academy after joining the club from Real Formacao as a youth player in 2010. He progressed through Benfica’s Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 teams before moving into the club’s B side and then the senior squad.
He made 113 Liga Portugal appearances for Benfica, scoring three goals and registering five assists. During his time with the Lisbon club, he won two Portuguese league titles, in 2018-19 and 2022-23, as well as the Portuguese League Cup in 2024-25 and three Portuguese Super Cups.
The move to Ipswich adds an experienced central midfielder with a substantial record in top-level competition. Florentino has also played in the Champions League, Europa League, La Liga and Ligue 1 during his career, including loan spells with Monaco and Getafe.
Ipswich have secured the midfielder on a contract running until 30 June 2031, with the transfer completed on 4 August 2026.
