Ipswich sign Leicester winger Fatawu Issahaku in £19.8m deal on five-year contract

Ipswich Town have made a major statement in the transfer market by signing highly rated Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester City on a five-year deal worth €23.45m (£19.8m).

The Premier League newcomers confirmed the move on their social media channels, announcing that the 22-year-old has committed his future to the club until 30 June 2031.

The fee represents one of the biggest outlays in Ipswich’s history as they look to strengthen their squad to secure survival and build in the top flight.

Rising Ghana star joins Tractor Boys

Regarded as one of the most promising forwards of his generation, Fatawu Issahaku made his name at Leicester, where his explosive pace, direct dribbling and creativity quickly caught the eye.

The Ghana international, who operated mainly on the right wing for the Foxes, became known for his ability to unsettle defences and generate scoring chances, even when used intermittently.

Although his game time at Leicester City was at times restricted following his arrival in the summer of 2023, his performances were enough to convince Ipswich that he could be a key addition as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

Long-term investment in attacking firepower

Ipswich, nicknamed the Tractor Boys, see Fatawu Issahaku as a central part of their long-term project, both to stay in the division and to progress beyond merely battling relegation.

His arrival significantly bolsters their attacking options, giving the side added speed and unpredictability in wide areas as they adapt to the demands of top-flight football.

By tying him down until 2031, Ipswich have underlined their belief that the Ghanaian can grow with the club and develop into one of the Premier League’s standout young wingers.

Market value and previous salary

On player valuation site Transfermarkt, Fatawu Issahaku is currently rated at €20m, slightly below the fee Ipswich have agreed to pay Leicester City, underlining the club’s willingness to invest above market price to secure their target.

During his spell at Leicester, the winger earned an annual salary of €583,609 (379,345,850 CFA francs), a figure that is likely to be eclipsed by his new terms at Portman Road, reflecting his elevated status and the financial step up that comes with playing in the Premier League.

The move marks a new chapter in Fatawu Issahaku’s career, giving him the platform of regular top-flight football and the opportunity to establish himself as a leading figure for both club and country in the years ahead.
