Kaizer Chiefs forward Flavio Silva has dismissed comparisons to global football icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting his contribution to the team lies in consistency and teamwork rather than individual brilliance.
Flavio Silva, who joined the club at the start of the current campaign, has scored eight goals in all competitions so far, including six in the Betway Premiership. His efforts have helped lift Chiefs into third place on the table with 42 points, with eight matches still to play.
Speaking to the club’s media team, the 30-year-old acknowledged the gap between himself and some of the world’s most celebrated players, but stressed that his approach remains effective within the team’s structure.
“It’s always about the team,” said Silva.
“I use to talk to my teammates and tell them I can score a lot of goals but I’m not Messi, I’m not Ronaldo. I’m not going to dribble three, four players and score goals.
“I make my movement, they are going to pass me, I believe them. So, it’s always about the team.”
Chiefs come into their next fixture on the back of a strong run of form, having secured four consecutive victories. They are set to face Magesi FC, who are battling to avoid relegation, in a match Silva describes as significant for both sides.
The striker noted that while their opponents are fighting to remain in the league, Chiefs themselves are pursuing their own objectives, including a place in continental competition organised by Confederation of African Football.
“We respect them,” added Silva.
“We know they have a big target, they want to be in the PSL next season. But us also we have a target and ambitions to go to CAF, to be in the top three, that’s all.”
With momentum on their side, Chiefs are aiming to extend their winning streak to five matches. Silva also made clear that his personal ambitions remain high as the season progresses.
“For sure, our ambition is to get a fifth one [win]. We cannot stop until the end and if I can go for 20 goals, I’ll go for 20 goals. There is no limit.”
As the campaign enters its decisive phase, Silva’s pragmatic approach and emphasis on collective effort could prove vital in Chiefs’ pursuit of both domestic success and continental qualification.
