Ibrahim Maza scored a superb goal as Bayer Leverkusen beat Union Berlin 4-0 on Saturday to secure their first victory of the new Bundesliga season.
The Algerian international produced a fine individual finish in the 66th minute at the Bay Arena after combining intelligently with Patrik Schick.
Maza initially played a clever backheel pass to Schick before receiving the ball back inside the area. He then moved beyond an opposing defender and fired a powerful effort into the net to complete an impressive attacking move.
The goal continued a strong start to the 2026-27 campaign for the 20-year-old, who has already contributed to three goals in his first three matches of the season.
Maza has scored once and provided two assists during that run, underlining his growing influence in Leverkusen’s attack.
His display against Union Berlin was also reflected in his individual rating. Maza remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and was awarded a rating of 9 out of 10 by SofaScore.
Leverkusen’s convincing victory lifted them to five points from two matches, with the side now fifth in the table according to the supplied standings. Union Berlin, meanwhile, have one point from their opening two games after a draw and a defeat and sit 14th.
Maza’s latest performance adds to his statistics since joining Leverkusen from Hertha Berlin for €12m in the summer of 2015.
According to Transfermarkt, he has made 47 appearances for Leverkusen and has been involved in 15 goals, scoring six and providing nine assists.
His latest goal was another indication of the attacking contribution he has made during the early stages of the new campaign.
The result also gave Leverkusen an important boost after their opening two league fixtures produced one victory and one defeat.
For Maza, however, the individual numbers continue to stand out. His goal against Union Berlin took his contribution to three goals in three matches this season, with the Algerian having already provided two assists alongside his goal.
The performance at the Bay Arena therefore marked another productive outing for the young midfielder as Leverkusen recorded a comprehensive victory over Union Berlin.
