Borussia Dortmund defeated Hamburg 2-0 in Saturday’s Bundesliga meeting, overcoming the dismissal of Samuele Inacio during the second half to protect their advantage and claim victory.
The home side made the ideal start and took the lead after nine minutes. Serhou Guirassy finished the move to put Borussia Dortmund in front, with Konstantinos Karetsas providing the assist.
Hamburg were unable to respond before the interval, and Borussia Dortmund doubled their advantage shortly before half-time. Giannis Konstantelias was the scorer, giving the hosts a two-goal cushion at the break.
That second goal proved decisive as Borussia Dortmund adopted a more cautious approach after the restart. The hosts concentrated on defending their lead and worked to prevent Hamburg from finding a way back into the match.
Their task became more difficult in the 77th minute, when Borussia Dortmund were reduced to 10 players. Samuele Inacio was shown a red card, leaving the home side to see out the closing stages with a numerical disadvantage.
Hamburg, however, could not make use of the extra man. Despite Borussia Dortmund’s reduced numbers, the visitors failed to score, allowing the hosts to preserve their clean sheet and complete a 2-0 victory.
The result was shaped by Borussia Dortmund’s fast start, with Guirassy’s early goal followed by Konstantelias’ strike before half-time. Hamburg’s inability to take advantage after Inacio’s dismissal meant the two-goal lead remained intact until the final whistle.
For Borussia Dortmund, the match combined attacking efficiency in the opening period with defensive resolve after the break. The hosts scored twice before half-time, then focused on protecting that advantage once the match became more challenging following the red card.
Hamburg left without a goal despite having a numerical advantage for the final stages. Borussia Dortmund therefore claimed all three points in a match decided by the first-half goals and secured by their resistance after being reduced to 10 men.
