Mohamed Richard Camara is close to completing a move from Asante Kotoko SC to Sekhukhune United FC, after reaching an agreement in principle with the South African Premiership side.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper is expected to sign a two-year contract with the option of a third year, marking his first experience in South African football.
While a few formalities remain, sources indicate that discussions between the player’s representatives and Sekhukhune United have been successful, with both parties confident of finalising the deal.
Camara’s impending departure comes as his current contract with Kotoko nears its end, with the player confirming that he is ready for a new challenge after a brief but impactful spell in Ghana.
The move represents a significant step in Camara’s career progression.
Having built his reputation in Guinea, the goalkeeper quickly adapted to life in the Ghana Premier League, establishing himself as a key figure for Kotoko within a single season.
Since joining the Kumasi-based club in July 2024 on a two-year deal, he has made several league appearances and delivered a series of consistent performances.
His commanding presence and reliability between the posts earned him recognition, including a goalkeeper of the month award during the campaign.
He had previously been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs FC, one of the country’s biggest clubs. However, that transfer did not materialise after the club reportedly failed to meet his financial demands.
Sekhukhune United, by contrast, were able to match the terms sought by the player, allowing them to move ahead in the race for his signature.
A pre-contract agreement has already been reached, with only minor details left to be resolved before the transfer is completed.
A final meeting is expected between Camara and Kotoko officials in the coming days to formally conclude his exit.
His current market value is estimated at around €100,000.
The Guinean international, who is also the son of former national team player Kemoko Camara, now appears set to continue his development in South Africa’s top flight.
