Gregory Ayem: France-Cameroon midfielder joins Montpellier on free transfer

France-Cameroon attacking midfielder Gregory Ayem has joined Montpellier on a free transfer from Racing CFF, signing a contract with the Ligue 2 club until 30 June 2029. The 20-year-old, who can operate in the central attacking midfield role, makes the move after leaving the National 1 side at the end of last season.

Ayem, born in Saint-Denis on 12 January 2006, has been handed the number 90 shirt as he steps up from France’s third tier to the professional ranks with Montpellier. Standing at 1.85m and predominantly right-footed, he will add further depth in advanced midfield areas for the Occitanie club.

The switch marks a significant step in Ayem’s career, with Montpellier recruiting him following his time in the National 1 – Group A competition with Racing CFF. His performances there have earned him a long-term deal as the club continue to shape their squad for the coming campaigns.

Ayem holds both French and Cameroonian nationality and is registered with Montpellier’s professional set-up from 21 July 2026. His move from Racing CFF to the Ligue 2 side is a permanent free transfer and ties him to the club for three years.
