Al Ahly Benghazi have signed Kaizer Chiefs winger Glody Makabi Lilepo on a two-year contract after the DR Congo international completed an 18-month spell with the South African club.
The 28-year-old joins the Libyan side after making 56 appearances for Amakhosi in all competitions. He scored 15 goals and provided five assists during his time at Naturena, helping Kaizer Chiefs win the Nedbank Cup and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Al Ahly Benghazi are understood to have beaten competition from Moroccan clubs Raja Casablanca and AS FAR Rabat to secure Lilepo’s signature. The Libyan club submitted an offer that was acceptable to both the player and Kaizer Chiefs.
The move was confirmed by Al Ahly Benghazi, who described Lilepo as an important part of their plans for the new season and their upcoming continental campaign.
“We are thrilled to officially welcome Glody Lilepo to our family as a cornerstone of our technical rebuild for the upcoming competitive cycle,” the club said.
“His exceptional pace, proven tactical creativity, and extensive experience navigating the pressures of the CAF Champions League will significantly elevate our attacking threshold as we fight for domestic glory and continental recognition.”
Lilepo joined Kaizer Chiefs in January 2025 and made a notable contribution during his time with the club. His arrival helped Amakhosi end a 10-year wait for silverware, with the winger playing a part in their Nedbank Cup triumph.
He also contributed to Kaizer Chiefs qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup in successive campaigns.
Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the permanent transfer in a statement thanking Lilepo for his service.
“Kaizer Chiefs can confirm that a full agreement has been reached with Al Ahly Benghazi for the permanent transfer of Glody Makabi Lilepo.”

Reports indicate that personal circumstances also played a part in Lilepo’s decision to leave South Africa. His family had reportedly faced continuing difficulties securing the documentation needed to join him there.
The transfer represents a return to North African football for Lilepo, who has previous experience with Al Hilal Omdurman and AS Vita Club. He also played for Valenciennes FC before moving to Kaizer Chiefs.
Al Ahly Benghazi will hope the winger’s pace, versatility and goalscoring ability can strengthen their pursuit of domestic honours and improve their prospects in continental competition.
Lilepo’s departure brings an end to a productive period with Kaizer Chiefs, where his attacking output and involvement in the club’s trophy success made him a significant contributor during the 2024-25 campaign.
