DR Congo forward Glody Lilepo of Kaizer Chiefs is being linked with a move to Libyan Premier League side Swehly in what would be one of the more unexpected transfer stories of the current window.
The 28-year-old right winger, who joined Chiefs from French club Valenciennes in January 2025, is under contract with the Soweto side until June 2027 but is attracting interest after establishing himself in South Africa’s Betway Premiership. He has made 42 league appearances for Chiefs, scoring 11 goals and adding five assists, and was part of the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup in the 2024-25 season.
Swehly’s interest comes at a time when Lilepo’s market value has risen to around €700,000 following his performances in domestic competition and on the continental stage earlier in his career. His track record in African club competition, including eight goals in 16 CAF Champions League outings and further strikes in the CAF Confederation Cup, is understood to be a key factor in the Libyan club’s pursuit.
Lilepo, born in Kinshasa and standing at 1.85m, has built a reputation as a right-sided attacker who can also offer a goal threat from wide areas, having delivered consistent end product for Chiefs since arriving in Johannesburg. Chiefs paid a reported €500,000 to bring him in from Ligue 2, and any deal with Swehly would likely need to reflect both that outlay and his current valuation.
For now, Lilepo remains a Kaizer Chiefs player with a year left before he enters the final 12 months of his contract, leaving the South African club in a strong position as interest from Libya develops.
