Carlos Queiroz has agreed a new coaching mandate with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to remain in charge of the Black Stars.
The Portuguese coach’s previous contract, which covered Ghana’s participation at the 2026 Fifa World Cup, ended following the tournament.
The GFA said it had reached an agreement with Queiroz after discussions with the coach and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The new mandate will begin with the upcoming international window, although the GFA has yet to announce its duration or specific targets.
Queiroz, 73, was initially appointed in April on a short-term contract to lead Ghana at the World Cup.
He guided the Black Stars to the knockout stages before their campaign ended with a 1-0 defeat by Colombia in the last 32.
Despite the disappointment of an early exit, the GFA has opted for continuity, citing Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and familiarity with the Black Stars.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United assistant has managed several national teams during a career spanning more than three decades, including Portugal, Iran, Colombia, Egypt and Qatar.
His first major task in the new mandate will be to prepare Ghana for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia, with the qualifying matches scheduled to begin later this month.
The GFA said further details about Queiroz’s new mandate and the Black Stars’ programme would be announced in due course.
The decision provides clarity over the technical direction of the national team following uncertainty over Queiroz’s future after the World Cup.
