Gasperini blocks €60m Chelsea approach for Roma midfielder Manu Kone

Gian Piero Gasperini blocked Manu Kone’s proposed move from Roma to Chelsea on transfer deadline day, underlining the increasing influence the manager holds at the Italian club.

Chelsea were prepared to pay almost €60m for the 25-year-old France international, but Roma refused to sanction the transfer.

According to Sky Sport, the Premier League club made its offer on deadline day. Gazzetta reported that Chelsea were ready to complete the deal at a meeting scheduled for 12:00 on Tuesday.

However, Gasperini intervened to prevent Kone from leaving Roma, ensuring the midfielder remained with the Serie A club after the transfer window closed.

The decision highlights the authority Gasperini is gaining at Roma. His intervention meant that a substantial offer for a France international was rejected, despite Chelsea being prepared to finalise the agreement.

Kone’s proposed transfer had advanced to the point where a meeting had been arranged to complete the move. Chelsea’s offer was understood to be worth nearly €60m, but Roma ultimately chose not to sell.

The midfielder therefore remains at Roma after a deadline-day move to Chelsea was blocked. Gasperini’s role in the decision demonstrates that his influence extends beyond the team’s performances and into major transfer matters.

The reports were published by Sky Sport and Gazzetta. The article was written by Lorenzo Bettoni, editor of Football Italia.
