Four-goal Celtic advance as Haitham Hassan makes first appearance

Celtic began their Scottish League Cup campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Dundee United on Saturday, with Egyptian forward Haitham Hassan making his first appearance for the club as they secured a place in the quarter-finals.

Hassan joined Celtic during the current summer transfer window after moving from Real Oviedo. The Egypt international did not start at Tannadice but was introduced from the bench in the 71st minute as Celtic completed a comfortable win.

The 22-year-old’s arrival at Celtic was followed by a positive first outing, even though the visitors had already established a commanding lead before he entered the match. Celtic controlled the contest and eventually finished with four goals without reply.

Auston Trusty opened the scoring for the Scottish side in the 22nd minute. Celtic then doubled their advantage just two minutes later when Camilo Duran found the net, putting Dundee United under further pressure before half-time.

The visitors continued to dominate after the interval and added a third goal through Sebastian Tounekti in the 53rd minute. Benjamin Nygren completed the scoring in the 62nd minute, giving Celtic a four-goal cushion.

Hassan came on nine minutes after Nygren’s goal and played the closing stages of a match that had already been settled in Celtic’s favour. His introduction nevertheless marked the start of his time with the Scottish club after his summer move from Real Oviedo.

Celtic’s win ensured their progress to the last eight of the Scottish League Cup, while Dundee United were eliminated following a one-sided scoreline. The result also gave Hassan a successful first step with his new team, despite his appearance coming as a substitute rather than in the starting line-up.

The Egyptian forward will now look to build on his debut after joining Celtic from Real Oviedo during the summer transfer window. His first competitive outing ended with Celtic advancing comfortably, aided by goals from Trusty, Duran, Tounekti and Nygren.
