Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick says the club remain determined to sign a striker before the transfer window closes, with Ferran Torres’ situation potentially influencing their plans.
Flick has placed his confidence in sporting director Deco to complete the recruitment work and made clear that strengthening the number-nine position remains a priority for Barcelona, according to SPORT.
However, the club’s approach could be affected by what happens with Torres. The forward’s future is understood to be one of the factors Barcelona must consider as they assess whether and how to add another attacking option before the deadline.
Flick outlines Barcelona’s attacking options
Although Barcelona are continuing to look for a specialist striker, Flick stressed that he already has several players capable of covering different roles in attack.
Lamine Yamal can operate as a false nine, while Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi can play through the middle or from either wing. Their versatility gives Flick alternatives while Deco continues to work in the transfer market.
Those options mean Barcelona are not without cover in the forward positions, but Flick’s preference remains clear: the club would like to bring in an established number nine. Until that happens, the manager can rely on the attacking flexibility already available to him.
The identity of Barcelona’s preferred target has not been confirmed. Flick’s public comments have focused on the club’s desire to strengthen in attack and his belief that Deco is capable of managing the search.
De Jong injury does not change midfield plans
Flick also addressed Barcelona’s midfield situation following Frenkie de Jong’s injury. Despite the setback, he does not believe the club need to recruit another midfielder.
The manager considers Barcelona to have enough depth in that area, meaning the injury has not changed the club’s main transfer priority. The search for a striker therefore remains the central piece of business for the remainder of the window.
Barcelona’s plans could still develop depending on Torres’ position. If his circumstances change, that may influence the urgency or shape of the club’s pursuit of another forward.
For now, though, Flick has confirmed that Barcelona intend to continue pursuing a new number nine. The club have not announced a completed deal or identified a confirmed target, while Deco remains responsible for progressing the search before the transfer window closes.
