Evra slams Jamie Carragher over Mo Salah treatment at Liverpool

Former France international Patrice Evra has launched a strong critique of Jamie Carragher, accusing him of downplaying the achievements of Mohamed Salah during his time at Liverpool FC.

Speaking candidly, Evra expressed frustration at what he sees as a lack of appreciation for Salah’s contributions, despite the Egyptian’s pivotal role in Liverpool’s success in recent years.

“I’m going to be completely honest with you, because you know me, I always speak my mind,” Evra said. “I look at what is happening with Mo Salah at Liverpool and it actually baffles me.”

Evra singled out Carragher, suggesting that the former Liverpool defender has consistently downplayed Salah’s impact in media discussions.

“You have Liverpool legends like Jamie Carragher constantly playing down his achievements on television. Why? The man has won them everything,” he added.

Salah, widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s most influential players of the modern era, has amassed an impressive collection of individual and team honours during his time at the club. However, Evra believes the forward has not always received the recognition he deserves from figures closely associated with Liverpool.

“Instead of these legends being out there singing Mo Salah’s songs everywhere they go, they stay quiet or they criticise,” Evra said. “So what happens? Mo is forced to go on social media, posting his own stats and holding his own trophies just to remind his own people of the respect he deserves.”

Evra argued that this situation is unusual when compared to other top clubs, where former players often publicly support current stars.

“This would never happen at Arsenal FC,” he said. “Legends like Ian Wright and Thierry Henry protect their own and elevate their modern stars—like Bukayo Saka.”

He concluded by suggesting that Salah is being made to defend his legacy despite his achievements.

“At Liverpool, they’re making their best-ever player fight for his legacy. Very sad,” Evra added.

The comments are likely to reignite debate over Salah’s standing among Liverpool’s all-time greats, as well as the role of former players in shaping narratives around current stars.
