Espanyol are closing in on a deal to sign Bayern Munich winger Bryan Zaragoza on loan, with an option to make the move permanent, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 24-year-old Spanish winger has agreed to the proposed transfer, and the La Liga club are now finalising the arrangement. Zaragoza is set to return to Spain after spending the previous season away from Bayern Munich on two separate loan spells.
He spent the first half of last season with Celta, before moving to Italy for the remainder of the campaign to play for Roma. Both spells were temporary, with Zaragoza now poised to continue his career in La Liga at Espanyol.
The proposed agreement would give Espanyol the opportunity to sign Zaragoza permanently at the end of the loan. The report does not state the value of that option, but the player’s estimated market value on Transfermarkt is €8m.
Zaragoza remains under contract with Bayern Munich until the middle of 2029. His long-term deal with the German club means the potential move to Espanyol would initially be a loan rather than a permanent transfer.
Espanyol have made an uneven start to their La Liga campaign. They opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Levante, but followed that result with a 2-1 defeat by Real Madrid.
The possible arrival of Zaragoza would give Espanyol another attacking option as they continue their league campaign. The winger is expected to return to the competition after spending much of the previous season away from Spain, first with Celta and then with Roma in Serie A.
Zaragoza’s next move is therefore set to be determined by a deal between Bayern Munich and Espanyol. The Spanish club are seeking to bring him in on loan, while retaining the possibility of securing his services on a permanent basis later.
For Zaragoza, the transfer would represent another change of club following his two loan spells last season. He would return to a competition in which Espanyol have already recorded one win and one defeat, including a convincing victory against Levante and a narrow loss to Real Madrid.
