Tala’ea El-Gaish SC earned a narrow but important 1-0 victory over Pharco FC on Monday in the Egyptian Premier League survival group, strengthening their position in the fight to remain in the top flight.
The match, played as part of the 11th round of the relegation phase of the 2025–2026 Egyptian Premier League season, was decided by a first-half goal that proved enough to separate the two sides.
El-Gaish found the breakthrough in the 43rd minute through Islam Mohareb, who finished from close range after a well-worked attacking move down the right flank.
The move began with a delivery from Khaled Awad, which reached Ismail Agourou. He then laid the ball into Mohareb’s path, allowing him to convert from inside the penalty area and give his team the lead just before the interval.
Despite efforts from Pharco to respond in the second half, El-Gaish managed the game effectively to preserve their advantage and secure all three points.
The result sees El-Gaish move into sixth place in the relegation group standings with 36 points, improving their chances of remaining in the top division ahead of the final round of fixtures.
For Pharco, however, the defeat confirmed a difficult campaign, leaving them in 13th place on 22 points in the survival group standings.
The Egyptian Premier League survival group consists of 14 teams, specifically those that finished between 8th and 21st after the first phase of the competition. Under the competition rules, four teams in total will be relegated to the second division.
The relegation battle has already reached its conclusion for some sides, with both Ismaily SC and Pharco confirmed to be dropping out of the top flight following results in the survival phase.
Attention now turns to the final round of fixtures, where the remaining relegation places will be decided.
Two teams still face the possibility of joining Ismaily and Pharco in the second division, with their fate set to be determined in the closing matches of the campaign.
El-Gaish, meanwhile, will take confidence from their disciplined display, having combined defensive organisation with a decisive moment in attack to secure a vital win at a crucial stage of the season.
With pressure mounting across the relegation group, every point remains significant, and El-Gaish’s narrow victory could prove decisive in ensuring their survival in Egypt’s top division.
