Eintracht Frankfurt have signed SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu on loan until the end of the season, with a purchase clause that will become mandatory if certain performance conditions are met.
The Bundesliga club officially announced the deal on 28 August, securing a potential long-term transfer for the 24-year-old, who has established himself as Freiburg’s first-choice goalkeeper after progressing through the club’s academy.
Atubolu was born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 2000 and joined Freiburg’s youth system at the age of 13. He made his senior debut for Freiburg II when he was 18 and played an important role as the side won promotion to the 3. Liga and finished runners-up in the 2022-23 season.
His performances helped him move into the Freiburg first team, where he became the club’s starting goalkeeper at the age of 21.
Standing 1.90 metres tall, Atubolu recorded 15 clean sheets during his first professional season, featuring across the Bundesliga, Europa League and DFB-Pokal. He also set two club records, going 609 minutes without conceding a goal and making five consecutive penalty saves in Bundesliga matches.
Those displays led to his inclusion in the provisional squad for the Germany national team.
Atubolu subsequently helped Freiburg qualify for the Europa League and played in the club’s run to the 2025-26 Europa League final. He appeared in all 15 of Freiburg’s matches in the competition and conceded 13 goals during the campaign.
The goalkeeper has made 125 official appearances for Freiburg’s first team. He also played 81 times for Freiburg’s second team in the 3. Liga and regional leagues.
Atubolu has represented Germany at several youth levels, collecting 10 caps for the U17, U19 and U20 sides. He later became Germany U21’s first-choice goalkeeper and has made 22 appearances for the team, the highest number recorded by any goalkeeper.
In summer 2025, he was part of the Germany U21 side that finished runners-up at the European Championship.
His move to Eintracht Frankfurt gives the goalkeeper the opportunity to continue his development at another Bundesliga club, while Frankfurt have protected themselves with a clause that can turn the loan into a permanent transfer once the agreed performance criteria are fulfilled.
