Egyptian referee Amin Omar has been selected by FIFA to oversee the Intercontinental Cup tie between Al Ahli Saudi and Auckland City, in the latest sign of growing international trust in Egyptian match officials.
The fixture will be played at Al Inma Stadium in Jeddah on 26 August, with the Saudi Pro League side facing the New Zealand club as part of the Intercontinental Cup competition.
FIFA has confirmed that the entire refereeing team for the match will be Egyptian. Omar will be the referee, supported on the touchlines by assistant referees Mahmoud Abou Elregal and Ahmed Hossam Taha.
Mihammad Nagy has been appointed as fourth official, while Mahmoud Ashour will be in charge of VAR, assisted by AVAR official Tarek Magdy.
The appointments are being viewed within Egyptian officiating circles as further evidence of the high regard in which their referees are held at international level, with a full Egyptian crew being trusted to manage a prominent fixture in an intercontinental competition.
