Edin Dzeko is set to bring his 19-year international career with Bosnia and Herzegovina to a close, having scored 73 goals in 151 appearances since making his debut for the national team in 2007.
The 40-year-old striker’s total places him seventh in UEFA’s all-time international goals standings. Among players who remain active, only Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane have scored more goals for their countries.
Dzeko’s record has put him among the most prolific international forwards in European football history. His 73 goals leave him two behind former Hungary forward Sandor Kocsis, who scored 75, and two ahead of Germany’s Miroslav Klose, who finished his international career with 71.
Portugal captain Ronaldo leads the standings by a considerable margin, with 146 international goals. Belgium forward Lukaku is second on 93, while Poland’s Lewandowski has 89.
England captain Kane is fourth with 85 goals, one behind Hungary great Ferenc Puskas. Kocsis occupies sixth place with 75, just above Dzeko.

He is ahead of Germany’s Gerd Muller and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane, who both scored 68 international goals. France forward Mbappe, with 66, completes the published top 11.
Dzeko is therefore positioned between two generations of leading European goalscorers: Kocsis and Klose are among the retired players above and below him, while Lukaku, Lewandowski, Kane and Mbappe remain active alongside the record-setting Ronaldo.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina forward’s pending international farewell will mark the end of a career that has lasted almost two decades at national-team level. His 151 appearances and 73 goals leave him seventh in UEFA history, with only four active players currently above him in the scoring rankings.
