Ghana-Netherlands centre-back Derrick Luckassen, currently without a club after leaving Cypriot champions Pafos FC, is being linked with a move to Serbian SuperLiga side Red Star Belgrade.
The 31-year-old defender became a free agent on 1 July 2026 following the end of his spell in Cyprus, a situation that would allow Red Star to strengthen their squad without paying a transfer fee. Luckassen’s market value is currently listed at around €1m, and discussions over a potential deal are understood to be at a preliminary stage.
Luckassen arrives on the market with extensive top-flight and European experience. He has made 84 Eredivisie appearances and featured in the Bundesliga and Belgian Pro League, as well as playing in all three major UEFA club competitions, including the Champions League and Europa League. Most recently, he was part of the Pafos side that won the Cypriot title in 2024-25.
Born in Amsterdam and eligible for both Ghana and the Netherlands, Luckassen has also been involved on the international stage this year, featuring twice at the 2026 World Cup and scoring once, underlining his continued ability to perform at a high level.
Red Star are monitoring options to add experience at centre-back ahead of the new SuperLiga season and are weighing whether to formalise their interest. For now, Luckassen remains unattached and free to negotiate with interested clubs, with his next move likely to be decided in the coming weeks.
