Crystal Palace are reportedly close to signing 18-year-old Moroccan defender Taha Majni from Union Touarga, with the move expected to be completed before the English transfer window closes on Tuesday, 1 September.
According to football insider Youssef, Palace have been impressed by the young centre-back and are ready to bring him to London. The deal would see Majni leave the club where he began his career and join the Premier League side, who already have his compatriot Chadi Riad in their squad.
Majni, who turns 19 in October, is regarded as one of Morocco’s most promising defenders. A right-footed and versatile player, he is primarily a central defender but can operate on either side of the back four.
He has made 19 senior appearances for Union Touarga so far, including 15 last season. Majni started 13 of those matches, underlining the trust placed in him despite his age.
The initial plan is understood to be for Majni to join Crystal Palace’s reserve set-up before making the step up to the first team. That progression would depend on his performances and development after arriving in England.
Majni had also attracted interest from Raja Casablanca, one of the most established clubs in Moroccan football, according to his Transfermarkt profile. However, Palace now appear to have moved ahead in the race for his signature.
The potential transfer would add another chapter to Majni’s rapid rise through Moroccan football. He previously represented Morocco at under-17 and under-18 level, making two appearances for the national teams at those age groups.
In October 2025, he was part of the Morocco side coached by Mohamed Ouahbi that won the Under-20 World Cup. Majni came on for the final five minutes of the final against Argentina, which Morocco won 2-0.
He also made his Morocco Under-23 debut in March, earning his first two caps for the side. Majni came off the bench to play the final 30 minutes of the first leg against Cote d’Ivoire, a match that ended 0-0.
He then started the return fixture and played the full match after Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal was forced off with an injury. Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire drew that game 2-2.
Palace’s reported move for Majni comes as the transfer deadline approaches, with the club hoping to secure a player who is already gaining experience at senior and youth international level. If the transfer is completed, the defender will initially be expected to continue his development within the London club’s reserve structure before challenging for a place in the first team.
