Burkina Faso national football team have begun life under new head coach Amir Abdou with a staggered start to their training camp, as only seven players reported for the opening sessions in Ouagadougou.
They assembled at the 4 August Stadium on Monday as Abdou oversaw his first training session since taking charge.
The early arrivals included key names such as Hervé Koffi and Dango Ouattara, alongside Ismaïla Ouédraogo, Lohan Doucet, Ibrahim Bancé, Mohamed Zougrana and Jack Diarra.
Later that same night, a second wave of players joined the camp.
Among those arriving were Bertrand Traoré’s international teammate Lassina Traoré, as well as Edmond Tapsoba, Mohamed Konaté, Dylan Ouédraogo, Elohim Kabore, Landry Kabore, Gustavo Sangaré, Eric B. Kalo, Arsène Kouassi and Kilian Nikiema.
The gradual arrival of players reflects the realities of international football, where travel schedules and club commitments often delay the full assembly of squads.
Nevertheless, the early sessions have provided Abdou with an opportunity to begin working closely with those already in camp and to introduce his ideas ahead of upcoming fixtures.
The full squad is expected to be completed in the coming days, with preparations intensifying ahead of Burkina Faso’s friendly matches against Guinea-Bissau national football team on 28 and 31 March.
These games will mark Abdou’s first matches in charge and serve as an early test of his approach.
The appointment of Abdou, along with his newly confirmed technical staff, signals the start of a rebuilding phase for the Stallions.
The team is looking to move forward after a recent Africa Cup of Nations campaign that did not meet expectations, making the current international window particularly important.
