Chelsea sign England forward Morgan Rogers in £117m deal from Aston Villa

Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a deal worth around €117m, making him the second most expensive player in Premier League history.

The 23-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033 and will link up with new head coach Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season.

Chelsea confirmed the transfer on their official website on Tuesday evening, describing Rogers as one of the most exciting young attacking talents in the Premier League.

Long-term commitment under Xabi Alonso

Rogers’ decade-long deal underlines Chelsea’s strategy of investing heavily in young, elite-level talent to build a core for the future. He will be expected to play a central role in Alonso’s new-look side as the club seeks to return to the top of English and European football.

The forward arrives after a standout spell at Aston Villa, where his goals and assists directly contributed to 40 goals in 85 Premier League appearances. His form helped Villa secure an impressive fourth-place finish in the league and culminated in lifting the Europa League trophy last season.

Rogers’ versatility across the front line and his productivity in the final third are believed to be key reasons behind Chelsea’s determination to secure his signature.

One of the costliest deals in Premier League history

Multiple English media outlets report that the agreement is valued at €117m, placing Rogers behind only Alexander Isak in the all-time list of most expensive Premier League transfers. Isak moved from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer for a reported £125m.

The substantial fee reflects both Rogers’ current level and his perceived potential, with Chelsea betting that he can be a transformative figure in their attack over the coming years.

Established England international

Since making his senior England debut in November 2024, Rogers has quickly become a mainstay for the Three Lions. He has already earned 22 caps and was part of the squad that finished third at the 2026 World Cup.

His performances on the international stage, as well as in European competition with Villa, have reinforced his reputation as one of the leading young forwards in world football.

Beating Arsenal to the deal

Arsenal had been widely reported in England as the early front-runners for Rogers at the start of the summer transfer window. However, Chelsea moved decisively to overtake their London rivals and close the deal.

The club underlined that message on social media. On its official X account, Chelsea posted a video of Rogers to announce the transfer, captioned: “اختار تشيلسي” – Arabic for “He chose Chelsea” – a pointed nod to their successful battle with Arsenal for the player’s signature.

New star for Stamford Bridge

Rogers will now be expected to add pace, creativity and goals to a Chelsea side undergoing significant change under Alonso. With a long contract, a record-breaking fee and an increasingly prominent role for England, the forward will arrive at Stamford Bridge under intense scrutiny – and with equally high expectations.
