Chelsea are in discussions with Monaco about signing Lamine Camara, with the Senegal international being considered as a potential replacement for Enzo Fernandez.
Fernandez, 25, has been seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge throughout the summer. Manchester City are understood to be the midfielder’s most likely destination, although a deal has yet to be agreed between the clubs.
Former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is pushing for the transfer to be completed, but Manchester City have not yet matched Chelsea’s £120 million asking price for Fernandez.
That valuation remains the main obstacle to a possible departure, with City yet to meet the figure required to persuade Chelsea to sell. Until an agreement is reached, Fernandez remains at Stamford Bridge, although the continued interest has led Chelsea to consider their options in midfield.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Xabi Alonso’s side are in talks with Monaco over a possible move for Camara, who is 22.
Chelsea reportedly regard Camara as their preferred candidate to replace Fernandez should the Argentina international leave the club. The Senegal midfielder has emerged as the player they believe would best fill the expected vacancy in their squad.
Monaco are reluctant to sell Camara, but the Ligue 1 club could be persuaded to reconsider if Chelsea make an offer of €60 million. That figure is believed to have the potential to convince Monaco to sanction the transfer despite their desire to retain the player.
Thiago Scuro, Monaco’s managing director, has become directly involved in the situation as discussions develop. His involvement comes as Chelsea explore whether a deal can be reached for Camara while Fernandez’s future remains unresolved.
The proposed move for Camara is therefore linked closely to the uncertainty surrounding Fernandez. Chelsea are continuing to assess the midfielder’s possible replacement while negotiations over the 25-year-old’s potential transfer to Manchester City remain incomplete.
