Celta Vigo complete signing of Morocco winger Couhaib Driouech from PSV Eindhoven

Couhaib Driouech has joined Celta Vigo on a permanent transfer after signing a four-year contract with the Spanish club.

The 24-year-old Morocco winger completed the move on Tuesday, securing his future in La Liga after a proposed transfer to Rangers FC fell through.

Driouech had already travelled to Glasgow in anticipation of joining the Scottish club, but Rangers cancelled the deal. The club believed he would be unavailable for several weeks because of an injury. That assessment was strongly disputed by PSV Eindhoven.

After returning to Eindhoven, Driouech quickly rejoined the PSV squad. Celta Vigo subsequently took advantage of the breakdown in negotiations between the player and Rangers FC to complete their own agreement.

Driouech had already been left out of PSV’s squad for the match against FC Groningen, which PSV won 5-1. At that stage, an agreement had been reached between PSV Eindhoven and Rangers FC, although the transfer was ultimately not completed.

The winger joined PSV Eindhoven from Excelsior in the summer of 2024. During his time with the Eindhoven club, he made 61 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. He also won the national championship twice.

Driouech said his memories of his time at PSV would be defined by both his sporting achievements and the relationships he formed at the club.

“When I think back to my time at PSV, it is the great sporting moments that will remain engraved in my memory,” Driouech said on the club’s website.

“But above all, I appreciate the warmth that comes from this club and the bonds I have built with the players, the staff, the other employees and the supporters. I would like to thank every one of you. I am now looking forward to starting my new adventure at Celta Vigo, but I will continue to follow PSV and I wish the club every success in the future.”

His departure brings an end to a spell in Eindhoven that began after his move from Excelsior in 2024. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his next destination following the collapse of the Rangers FC deal, Driouech returned to the PSV set-up before completing his move to Spain.

Celta Vigo will now become the next stage of the Morocco international’s career, with the winger committing himself to the club until 2030 under the terms of his four-year agreement.
