Ghana-Italy forward Caleb Ekuban, currently without a club after leaving Genoa, is being linked with a move to Serie A side Monza as the Lombardy club explore low-cost attacking reinforcements this summer.
Ekuban became a free agent on 1 July after his contract with Genoa ended, and Monza are understood to be assessing a deal that would not involve a transfer fee, with the 32-year-old’s current market valuation standing at around €1.2 million. Bringing in an experienced striker on a free would fit Monza’s strategy as they try to deepen their squad without major outlay.
The Villafranca di Verona-born centre-forward, who stands at 1.82m and operates primarily through the middle, has amassed more than 100 Serie A appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists in Italy’s top flight. His background in Italian football, combined with his dual nationality, makes him an attractive option for a club looking for a player already adapted to the league.
Ekuban’s most prolific spell came with Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he won both the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup and was named Player of the Tournament in the 2020-21 campaign. That form earned him a move to Genoa in 2021 for a reported €2.6 million fee.
For now, Ekuban remains a free agent, weighing up his next move after five seasons spent between Turkey and Italy, with Monza among the clubs considering whether to turn their interest into a formal offer.
