Burnley are considering a move for Ghanaian centre-back Kojo Peprah Oppong from Nice as they look to reinforce their Championship back line. The 22-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 club last summer, is being monitored after establishing himself in France and earning a place in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad.
Oppong made 29 Ligue 1 appearances for Nice, scoring once, after arriving from Swedish side Norrkoping in July 2025 for a reported €2.68m fee. His performances have seen his valuation rise to around €10m, a figure likely to frame any negotiations should Burnley decide to formalise their interest.
The Accra-born defender is under contract at Nice until June 2029, meaning the French club are under no pressure to sell and would be in a strong position at the bargaining table. Burnley, operating in the Championship, are understood to be exploring options across Europe as they reshape their squad, with Oppong fitting the profile of a player with both top-flight and continental experience.
Oppong has also featured in European competition, including the Europa League and Champions League qualifying rounds, adding to a resume that began in Sweden with Norrkoping and loan spells at GIF Sundsvall in Superettan and Allsvenskan. For Ghana, he has appeared at the 2026 World Cup, coming off the bench in two of their four matches.
Any potential deal would require Burnley to persuade Nice to part with a player tied to a long-term contract, with talks yet to progress beyond initial interest. Oppong remains contracted to the Cote d’Azur club until 30 June 2029.
