Burkina Faso international Issoufou Dayo has agreed to return to Moroccan football after signing for Moghreb Tétouan.
The 35-year-old central defender joins the Moroccan club with extensive experience of domestic and continental football, having spent a significant part of his career with Renaissance Berkane.
Dayo’s move gives Moghreb Tétouan an experienced option in defence as the club looks to benefit from a player who has spent more than a decade competing at international level with the Burkina Faso national team.
The defender previously played for RS Berkane before leaving Morocco for Umm Salal, but he will now continue his career in the country where he enjoyed the most successful period of his club career.
Born in Burkina Faso, Dayo began his professional career with RC Bobo-Dioulasso before moving to Étoile Filante of Ouagadougou.
He later moved abroad to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he played for AS Vita Club.
His spell with the Congolese side exposed him to the demands of African club competitions and helped establish his reputation beyond Burkina Faso.
However, it was his move to Morocco in 2016 that became a defining stage of his career.
Dayo joined Renaissance Berkane and quickly became a key figure for the Oriental-based club. His consistency and experience made him an important part of the team during several campaigns on the African continent.
During his time with Berkane, Dayo was part of the side that won the Confederation Cup in 2020 and 2022.
Those successes were significant moments in Renaissance de Berkane’s development on the continental stage, and Dayo played his part as the club established itself as one of Africa’s leading teams in the competition.
His return to Morocco therefore brings him back to a country where he already has considerable knowledge of the football environment.
Dayo’s experience extends beyond club football.
He has made 82 appearances for Burkina Faso and scored nine goals for the Stallions, according to the figures displayed on his profile.
His international career has stretched for more than a decade and includes appearances at several editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Among those was the 2017 tournament, where Burkina Faso finished third.
The defender’s experience with both club and country is expected to be valuable to Moghreb Tétouan, who are bringing in a player familiar with the demands of African football and Moroccan competition.
Dayo previously represented RS Berkane before his move to Umm Salal, but his latest transfer means he will once again be based in Morocco.
