Arsenal extended their Premier League scoring sequence to 18 consecutive matches with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, with Bukayo Saka’s 59th-minute finish settling the contest.
The result marks the longest run of league games in which Arsenal have scored for seven years. Mikel Arteta’s side have now found the net in every one of their past 18 Premier League fixtures, continuing a sequence that began earlier this year.
Saka provided the decisive moment shortly after half-time, scoring in the 59th minute to give Arsenal a narrow victory against Aston Villa. His goal was enough to separate the teams and secure three points for the London club in the second round of the Premier League.
Arsenal’s latest scoring run is their best since a longer sequence achieved between August 2018 and January 2019. During that period, the Gunners scored in 20 successive Premier League matches.
The current run also represents a significant change from Arsenal’s most recent league fixture without a goal. That match took place on 17 January this year, when they drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest.
Since then, Arsenal have scored in 18 consecutive Premier League games, including Saturday’s meeting with Aston Villa. The latest result was decided by a single goal, but it allowed Arteta’s team to maintain their scoring record and claim victory in the second round.
Arsenal’s next league fixture will come on Sunday, 6 September, when the reigning English champions welcome Chelsea at home in the third round of the Premier League.
