Bruno Fernandes scored his second Premier League hat-trick as Manchester United opened their home campaign with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
The win came in the club’s first home match of the season, with Manchester United facing an Ipswich side back in the English top flight. Fernandes was the standout player for the hosts, finding the net three times as his team began their home schedule with a convincing result.
The hat-trick marked only the second time Fernandes has scored three goals in a Premier League match. His two trebles share another notable detail: both were scored in Manchester United’s first home game of the season.
Fernandes’ first Premier League hat-trick came in 2021, when Manchester United hosted Leeds United in their opening home fixture of that campaign. His latest treble came against Ipswich, again giving the midfielder an early-season landmark in front of the club’s home supporters.
Manchester United’s five-goal display ensured the occasion ended in victory, although Ipswich scored twice during the match. The final score was 5-2, with Fernandes’ contribution providing the central talking point from the contest.
For Manchester United, the fixture was the first opportunity of the season to play at home. That setting has now proved particularly productive for Fernandes, whose only two Premier League hat-tricks have both arrived in the corresponding match.
The result also came against Ipswich’s returning top-flight side. Their meeting with Manchester United was part of Ipswich’s return to the highest level of English football, but the visitors were beaten by a team inspired by Fernandes’ three goals.
Manchester United will next play away from home in the English championship. Their next fixture is against Everton, scheduled for Sunday, 6 September.
That match will give Manchester United the chance to build on their opening home victory, while Fernandes will aim to continue the form that has twice seen him produce a hat-trick in the club’s first home game of a season.
