Bruno Fernandes committed to Manchester United despite Galatasaray’s €20m-a-year offer

Bruno Fernandes does not intend to leave Manchester United, despite Galatasaray offering the Portuguese midfielder an annual salary of €20m.

The proposal from the Turkish club has not persuaded the 31-year-old to move to Turkey, according to journalist Laurie Whitwell. Fernandes wants to continue his career at Manchester United and remain with the “red devils”.

Manchester United’s leadership also has no intention of parting company with its captain. The club and the player are continuing discussions over a contract extension, with both sides engaged in talks about Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has been a Manchester United player since January 2020, when he joined the club and began his spell with the Manchester-based side. He is now the team’s captain and remains central to the club’s plans, despite the interest from Galatasaray.

His current contract with Manchester United runs until the middle of next year. The ongoing negotiations are therefore focused on extending his stay beyond the existing agreement rather than arranging a departure.

Galatasaray’s offer would provide Fernandes with €20m per year in wages, but the midfielder is not planning to accept the opportunity to continue his career in Turkey. Instead, his preference is to remain at Manchester United, where he has played since January 2020.

The position of the club is understood to match that of its captain. Manchester United do not want to lose Fernandes, while Fernandes himself wants to carry on representing the “red devils”. Those circumstances have led to continued discussions over a new contract.

For now, there is no indication that the midfielder is preparing to leave Manchester United. The key issue is whether the two parties can complete an extension before his current deal reaches its conclusion in the middle of next year.

Fernandes’ decision comes despite the scale of Galatasaray’s proposed salary. The Turkish club has offered €20m annually, but the Portuguese player’s stated intention is to stay with Manchester United rather than move abroad.

The midfielder’s future remains the subject of negotiations, although his preferred outcome is clear: Fernandes wants to continue playing for Manchester United, and the club’s leadership likewise wants to retain its captain.
