Black Queens face Malawi in final WAFCON warm-up

The Black Queens will conclude their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with an international friendly against Malawi on Thursday, July 23, in Casablanca, Morocco.

The match will serve as Ghana’s final test before the continental tournament gets underway, offering head coach Kim Lars Björkegren one last opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the competition.

Final preparations

The Black Queens have spent the past few weeks in Morocco holding an intensive training camp and playing a series of friendly matches as they build towards the tournament.

The clash with Malawi is expected to help the technical team fine-tune tactics, evaluate player fitness and strengthen team chemistry before the opening group game.

With WAFCON fast approaching, Ghana will be aiming to head into the tournament with confidence and momentum.

Focus shifts to Group D

Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.

The Black Queens will begin their campaign against Cape Verde on July 29 before taking on Cameroon and Mali in their remaining group fixtures.

The friendly against Malawi represents the final opportunity for Björkegren and his players to address any remaining concerns before turning their full attention to the quest for continental success.
