Serge Gnabry has returned to full first-team training with Bayern Munich after almost four months out with a groin injury, while Jamal Musiala has also taken part in the complete session as he continues his cautious recovery.
Gnabry had been sidelined for about 19 weeks after injuring the adductor muscle in his right thigh during Bayern’s final training session before their Bundesliga meeting with Stuttgart on 18 April. The Germany international completed almost all of his rehabilitation work at the club’s training centre.
The winger missed Bayern’s opening match of the 2026-27 Bundesliga season against Stuttgart on Friday, when Vincent Kompany’s side began their campaign with a 5-1 victory. However, Gnabry joined the squad for Monday’s entire session, according to German newspaper Bild.
He appeared in good spirits and trained with considerable energy. The 31-year-old was involved in one-on-one challenges and looked sharp in his movement and shooting.
Despite the positive development, Gnabry is not expected to feature in Bayern’s next fixture, when they travel to face Osnabruck in the German Cup on Wednesday evening.
Musiala’s return is also being handled carefully. Bild reported that the 23-year-old had seen his medication increased after suffering two collapses during friendly matches, with the incidents linked to absences caused by neurological disorders involving brief losses of consciousness.
Although Musiala completed the full training session on Monday, Bayern’s coaching staff do not want to rush him back into competitive action. The report said the club believes he “should not be rushed back now”.
Musiala, who is regarded as one of Germany’s leading players, looked physically strong during the session. He took part in challenges without restriction and completed the entire workout, which was held partly on the main pitch behind a protective screen and partly on an adjacent pitch without one.
Bild described the simultaneous returns of Gnabry and Musiala as “good news for Kompany”, adding that the Bayern manager now had all of his injured players back in training and that no member of the squad was working separately because of injury.
There were, however, several absences from Monday’s session for other reasons.
Arijon Ibrahimovic was not involved as he moves closer to joining Augsburg on loan. The proposed deal is understood to include an option for Augsburg to make the transfer permanent for €8m.
Right-back Sacha Boey also missed training. The France defender’s future under Kompany remains uncertain, and sporting director Max Eberl is working to find him a new club before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
Monday’s session also featured a brief concern involving Dayot Upamecano and new Bayern forward Luis Diaz. Upamecano caught the Colombia winger during a training exercise, sending Diaz heavily to the ground. After a short spell of treatment, however, both players were able to continue.
Another detail noted by Bild was Ismael Saibari’s presence in training with a bandage covering his left wrist.
