Barcelona forward Rony Bardghji will not travel with the squad for their pre-season friendly against Udinese as the Sweden international’s departure from the club moves closer.
The decision signals that Bardghji is no longer part of Hansi Flick’s plans for next season. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the player had been omitted from the travelling party for the match, with Barcelona now preparing for his exit.
“Rony Bardghji will not travel with the Barcelona squad for the friendly game against Udinese during pre-season, with his departure from the club close,” Romano wrote on X.
Romano added that his report from the previous day about Bardghji leaving Barcelona had now become reality. The player is expected to move on either a temporary or permanent basis.
Should Barcelona agree a permanent transfer, the deal is set to include a buy-back clause, giving the Catalan club the option to bring Bardghji back in the future. Alternatively, he could leave on loan as the club assesses the next stage of his development.
Bardghji’s omission comes as Barcelona reshape their attacking options under Flick. The club have signed Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, both of whom are capable of playing as wingers, increasing competition for places in the wide areas.
Barcelona’s plans are also being influenced by their activity elsewhere in the squad. The club are close to signing Rodri and are continuing to look for a new striker. Those moves would add further pressure on Barcelona to reduce the size of their squad by selling several players.
The decision over Bardghji therefore forms part of a broader process rather than being an isolated selection choice. With Gordon and Adeyemi available on the wings, and further attacking recruitment being considered, Barcelona have identified the player as someone who can leave during the current transfer window.
The exact structure of Bardghji’s departure has not yet been finalised. Barcelona must decide whether a loan move or a permanent transfer with a buy-back provision best suits the club’s plans, but Romano’s update indicates that the 2005-born forward is heading away from the first-team group.
His absence against Udinese provides the clearest indication so far that Flick does not expect to rely on him during the coming campaign. The friendly is part of Barcelona’s preparations for the new season, but Bardghji will not be involved as the club works towards finalising his future.
For now, Barcelona’s position is that Bardghji is available to leave, with the form of the move still to be determined. The club’s additions of Gordon and Adeyemi, their pursuit of Rodri and their search for a striker have all contributed to the need for departures, and Bardghji is the latest player to be placed outside Flick’s plans.
