Barcelona’s board is expected to confirm 20 September as the date for the club’s 2026-27 Ordinary General Assembly of Members, with an extension to the Spotify partnership among the key items on the agenda.
The meeting date will be decided at a board meeting on Thursday, held after the transfer window closes. Sunday, 20 September is regarded as the most likely option because Barcelona’s first team are scheduled to play Sevilla in La Liga at 21:00 on Saturday, 19 September.
The club, chaired by Joan Laporta, had considered holding an extraordinary assembly at the end of August. That plan was dropped because of logistical difficulties, the cost involved and the short gap between that meeting and the Ordinary General Assembly, which is normally held in the middle of October.
Barcelona has brought the assembly forward by about a month to give the club more time to seek members’ approval for a further increase in its Goldman Sachs loan facility. The additional borrowing, of up to 500m euros, would continue to fund the Espai Barca redevelopment project.
Members will also be asked to approve the club’s accounts for the 2025-26 financial year. The period is expected to produce record revenue, exceeding the 994m euros generated in the previous financial year and the 1.075bn euros included in the budget. The club is also expected to record a surplus.
The proposed budget for 2026-27 will be put to a vote as well. It is expected to pass the 1.1bn euro mark, partly because Barcelona anticipates playing the whole season at Spotify Camp Nou, with the stadium’s capacity set to increase during the first half of 2027.
Barcelona has issued notice of the assembly 15 days in advance. In recent weeks, the club has worked with auditors Crowe Global to verify and finalise its financial accounts ahead of the proposed 20 September meeting.
Sponsorship and commercial agreements
The agenda will also include a vote on a cooperation agreement with UAE-based Ohana Development. The company will operate the Barcelona brand through a high-end residential development, which is expected to provide the club with an annual return of about 10m euros.
Members will also be asked to formally confirm the renewal of the agreement with Spotify. Under the extended arrangement, Spotify will remain the sponsor of the men’s and women’s football shirts until 2030, while the naming rights for Camp Nou will continue until 2034.
The cooperation was announced on 17 October last year, two days before Barcelona’s 2025 Ordinary General Assembly.
Seven directors are also due to be formally ratified by the members: Rafa Yuste, Josep Cubells, Alfons Castro, Josep Ignasi Macia, Angel Riudalbas, Joan Soler and Xisco Puyol.
They have remained at the forefront of the club’s management since Laporta and nine other directors resigned on 9 February to prepare for the elections. After Laporta won the election on 15 March, members of his campaign team became official directors following the victory and formally took office on 1 July.
