Barcelona announce Egyptian airline partnership after Hamza Abdelkarim joins first team

Barcelona have announced a new three-season partnership with an Egyptian airline, with the agreement running until the end of the 2028-29 season.

The deal makes the Egyptian company Barcelona’s official and exclusive airline partner and will cover several teams across the Spanish club’s sporting structure.

The announcement comes at a notable time for Egyptian football supporters, following the arrival of young striker Hamza Abdel Karim at Barcelona from Al-Ahly and his involvement with the club’s first team.

There is no confirmation that Abdel Karim’s transfer played a direct role in Barcelona agreeing the sponsorship deal. However, the presence of an Egyptian player at one of Europe’s most recognisable clubs could provide an additional connection between Barcelona and supporters in Egypt.

The partnership also gives Barcelona an opportunity to strengthen its commercial presence across Egypt and the wider Middle East and Africa region, where the club already has a substantial following.

Egyptian airline becomes official Barcelona carrier

Under the new agreement, the Egyptian airline will serve as Barcelona’s official and exclusive air carrier.

The partnership is not restricted to the men’s football team. It extends to several of Barcelona’s sporting teams, reflecting the club’s wider commercial strategy.

The agreement covers Barcelona’s men’s first-team football side as well as the club’s basketball and handball teams.

The partnership therefore gives the Egyptian company exposure across multiple sports rather than limiting its association to football.

For Barcelona, the arrangement forms part of its efforts to broaden its international commercial network and establish relationships with companies in important overseas markets.

The club’s global popularity has made it an attractive partner for businesses seeking to reach supporters beyond Spain, while the airline gains an association with one of the world’s best-known football clubs.

No logo on Barcelona football shirt

Despite becoming an official partner, the Egyptian airline will not have its logo displayed on the shirt of Barcelona’s men’s first-team football side.

The terms of the agreement do not include a front-of-shirt placement for the airline on the club’s official football jersey.

Instead, the company will receive a visible presence through Barcelona’s handball team.

Its logo will be displayed on the front of the handball team’s shirt during matches, providing the airline with an official presence on one of the club’s sporting jerseys.

That distinction means Barcelona’s football shirt will remain unchanged by the new partnership, while the handball side will carry the Egyptian company’s branding during competition.

A wider push into Middle East and Africa

The partnership is intended to help Barcelona strengthen its position in the Middle East and Africa, particularly in markets where the club already commands significant support.

Egypt represents an important part of that strategy, while the involvement of an Egyptian player in Barcelona’s first-team setup could provide another point of interest for supporters in the country.

Abdel Karim’s arrival from Al-Ahly has already attracted attention among Egyptian football followers. His presence at Barcelona gives fans in Egypt a direct connection to the Spanish club at a time when Barcelona is seeking to increase its international reach.

However, the timing of the two developments should not be interpreted as proof that the player was responsible for the commercial agreement.

Barcelona have not confirmed any direct link between Abdel Karim’s transfer and the sponsorship deal.

The new agreement instead reflects the club’s broader strategy of increasing its commercial footprint internationally and developing partnerships in regions where it has a large fan base.

The three-year arrangement will remain in place through the end of the 2028-29 season, giving the Egyptian airline a long-term association with Barcelona and its teams.

The partnership will also allow the company to be identified with Barcelona’s football, basketball and handball operations during the agreement.

For Barcelona, the deal provides another international commercial relationship while reinforcing its efforts to reach supporters in Egypt and across the wider Middle East and Africa region.

For Egyptian fans, meanwhile, the agreement arrives at a particularly interesting moment, with Abdel Karim beginning his career at Barcelona and an Egyptian company now becoming an official partner of the Catalan club.

The combination of the new sponsorship and the young Egyptian striker’s presence gives Barcelona another connection with a country where interest in the club is already widespread.
