Senegal midfielder Babacar Sarr has joined Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger on a free transfer from Algerian club JS Kabylie.
The 28-year-old defensive midfielder moves to the Botola Pro Inwi after leaving Kabylie at the end of his spell in Algeria’s top flight. His switch strengthens Ittihad Tanger’s options at the base of midfield ahead of the new campaign.
Sarr, who is valued at around €500,000, leaves JS Kabylie having been part of a squad competing in the Algerian Ligue 1, one of North Africa’s most competitive leagues. The move marks a cross-border switch between two leading North African competitions, with Sarr now set to test himself in Morocco’s premier division.
Capable of shielding the back four and breaking up play in front of the defence, Sarr arrives in Tangier with experience in a physically demanding league and will be expected to add stability in central areas. His age profile offers Ittihad Tanger a player in his peak years, with ample experience but still scope to establish himself in a new environment.
The Senegalese midfielder’s arrival continues a trend of movement between Algerian and Moroccan clubs, with Botola Pro Inwi sides increasingly looking to neighbouring leagues for battle-hardened players.
Sarr’s free transfer from JS Kabylie to Ittihad Tanger is effective immediately, and he is registered as a new Ittihad Tanger player for the forthcoming Botola Pro Inwi season.
