Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has continued his impressive start at Deportivo La Coruña by scoring for the second consecutive match in Monday’s meeting with Málaga.
The Gabonese striker opened the scoring in the 21st minute, following up his goal on his official debut against Elche to make it two goals in his first two matches for the Spanish club.
Aubameyang struck after 20 minutes and 51 seconds at Málaga, receiving an assist from Luismi Cruz before calmly finishing his one-on-one opportunity to put Deportivo ahead.
The early goals have given the 37-year-old a strong start to his new spell in Spain and have quickly placed him among the leading scorers at the beginning of the La Liga season.
His latest goal also carried added significance, taking Aubameyang to 248 goals across Europe’s five major domestic leagues.
The Gabon international has now scored 248 times in total across the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1.
That figure puts him level with former Uruguay striker Luis Suárez, who also has 248 goals across the same five competitions.
Aubameyang is now ranked 25th on the all-time scoring list for Europe’s top five leagues, with former Italy and Roma forward Francesco Totti immediately ahead of him on 250 goals.
The Deportivo striker therefore needs only two more goals to move above Totti and claim 24th place on the prestigious list.
His quick start is particularly notable given the relatively low-profile nature of his arrival at Deportivo.
The Spanish club reportedly paid about €1.5 million to bring Aubameyang to Galicia, but the transfer did not attract the level of attention normally associated with a player with his record.
Rather than allowing the circumstances of his arrival to define the move, Aubameyang has responded on the pitch.
His first official appearance for Deportivo ended with a goal against Elche, before he followed that performance with another against Málaga.
