Atletico Madrid could complete a late move for Juventus forward Jonathan David before the summer transfer window closes on 31 August.
The Madrid club are prepared to take the Canada international on loan, according to information reported on social media by Fabrizio Romano. However, Atletico Madrid do not want to assume full responsibility for the striker’s wages, with negotiations with Juventus still continuing.
If the remaining details can be agreed, the transfer could be finalised by the end of Monday.
David’s possible move would see him switch Turin for Madrid at the closing stage of the window. Atletico Madrid are seeking an agreement that would allow them to add the forward to their squad temporarily, while limiting the extent of their financial commitment to his salary.
The clubs are therefore still working through the terms of the proposed loan. The outstanding issue concerns how David’s wages would be shared, rather than whether Atletico Madrid are interested in signing the player.
Fabrizio Romano’s report indicates that the deal remains active and could be completed on 31 August, although the negotiations with Juventus have not yet concluded. Until an agreement is reached, David remains a Juventus player.
The Canada forward featured 35 times for the Turin club in the previous Serie A season. During those appearances, he scored six goals and provided four assists.
