Aston Villa have held preliminary talks with West Ham United about a possible deal for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to The Athletic.
Wan-Bissaka, 28, is among Villa’s targets as they look to strengthen at right-back this summer. The club regard the position as a priority and want to provide competition for Matty Cash.
West Ham United are prepared to sell the former Manchester United defender and have placed a valuation of £25m, worth approximately $33.5m, on him. The figure was reported by The Athletic in its 7 July Transfer DealSheet.
Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham United from Manchester United in August 2024 for £15m, approximately $20.1m, and signed a seven-year contract. His current deal runs until 2031.
The London club were relegated to the Championship last season and will play in England’s second tier for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign. Wan-Bissaka made 25 league appearances during the season, although he started only two of West Ham United’s final seven matches.
He was replaced at right-back by Kyle Walker-Peters, who also deputised in the position while Wan-Bissaka was away representing DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Wan-Bissaka made 65 appearances for West Ham United during his two seasons with the club. Before moving to east London, he played 190 times for Manchester United across five seasons, winning the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
At this summer’s World Cup, Wan-Bissaka started all four of DR Congo’s matches. He helped his side earn a 1-1 draw with Portugal, while DR Congo also held a lead over England in the Round of 32 before Harry Kane scored twice from the 75th minute onwards to turn the match around.
Villa had previously tried to sign former Tottenham and current Flamengo right-back Emerson, but that move did not go through.
The club’s current player Kosta Nedeljkovic has attracted interest from Scottish club Rangers, as well as from other teams, which could further influence Villa’s plans at right-back.
A move for Wan-Bissaka would give Aston Villa an experienced option in the position and add competition for Cash, while West Ham United appear willing to part with a player who still has six years remaining on his contract.
