Aston Villa and Crystal Palace compete for Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana

Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are competing to sign Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana, with negotiations already under way, according to Italian journalist Schira.

The report, published on 20 August (CEST), says both Premier League clubs have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old midfielder and are currently vying for his signature.

Fofana is now considered to be outside Milan’s plans following Amorim’s arrival. That development has opened the possibility of the France international leaving the Rossoneri, with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace emerging as interested parties.

Schira reports that discussions over a potential move are taking place, although no further details about the clubs’ proposals or the stage reached in the negotiations have been provided.

Fofana joined Milan from Monaco in the summer of 2024 in a transfer worth 26 million euros. During his first season with the Italian club, he made 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

His performances have now attracted attention from two English clubs. Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are both understood to be monitoring the midfielder as they consider whether to pursue an agreement with Milan.

For Milan, the reported interest could provide an opportunity to resolve Fofana’s position after he was deemed surplus to requirements following Amorim’s appointment. For Fofana, the situation could lead to a move away from the club only a year after his arrival from Monaco.

The midfielder’s record last season included 36 appearances, two goals and four assists, while the transfer fee paid by Milan for his services was 26 million euros.

Schira’s report identifies Aston Villa and Crystal Palace as the two clubs currently competing for Fofana, with negotiations involving the midfielder under way. No agreement has been confirmed, and the report does not state whether Milan have accepted an offer from either side.

The potential transfer would see Fofana move to the Premier League after one season with Milan. At present, the key development is the reported competition between Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, as both clubs look to secure the midfielder while his future at Milan remains uncertain.
