Arsenal are preparing to make fresh contact with the representatives of Atletico de Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, despite the Argentina international’s reported reluctance to return to England for personal reasons.
The Gunners remain hopeful of persuading the 26-year-old to consider a move to London, with journalist Gianluigi Longari reporting that the club’s representatives are expected to speak to Alvarez’s camp again in the coming hours.
Alvarez is understood to have wanted a transfer to Barcelona, but Atletico de Madrid have categorically refused to sell the forward to a competitor. That decision has left Arsenal continuing to pursue a player who is also familiar with English football after his previous spell at Manchester City.
According to reports, Arsenal could offer about 150m euros for Alvarez. That figure would be acceptable to Atletico de Madrid and could give the Premier League club an opportunity to advance negotiations, even though the player’s personal preference currently represents an obstacle.
The London club have not abandoned their interest and are expected to use further discussions with the player’s representatives to try to change his position. Their renewed approach underlines Arsenal’s determination to reach an agreement despite Alvarez’s reported decision not to return to England.
